Career Fair Follow-Up Email
A recruiter meets more students in one afternoon than you'll interview with in a year. The whole point of the follow-up is one thing: remind them who you are. Do that with a specific detail from your conversation, and you're already ahead of everyone who sent a generic "thanks for your time."
The basic template
Subject: [Your name] — great to meet you at [fair name]
Hi [First name],
It was great talking with you at the [university / fair name] career fair on [day]. I especially appreciated our conversation about [specific thing — e.g. the data team's summer intern program / what you look for in candidates].
I'm very interested in the [role] and think my background in [one relevant skill or experience] would be a good fit. I've attached my resume for your reference.
Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you about next steps.
Best,
[Your name]
[Your email / phone]
A shorter version
Hi [First name],
Thanks for chatting with me at [fair] about the [role]. I really appreciated [one specific thing you discussed].
I've attached my resume and would love to be considered for the position. Hope to stay in touch.
Best,
[Your name]
Three things that help
- Reference one specific detail. It's the single most effective way to jog their memory.
- Attach your resume. One line, and it's easy for them to forward.
- Send it within 48 hours. After that, the window has largely closed.
Don't overthink the wording. The recruiter isn't grading your prose — they're deciding whether they remember you and whether you seemed interested. A short, specific email ticks both boxes.
